Season 2 of the UNAA in Dallas brought out an exceptional athlete that made the finals and did outstanding! Such a nice person; great athlete; very quiet and so intense – all at the same time.
She spent hours studying the course and planning her strategy. This is no exaggeration! I tried my best to get in her way and did it often – not on purpose I promise.
Christine was kind enough to share a lot about herself, made me laugh and also want to pick her brain about OCR’s. So much you can find out about Christine right here (don’t judge), so buckle up and jump in 🙂
Do you follow any pro sports, if so which teams/sports?
Not really. I’ve recently become pretty obsessed with obstacle course racing, which is really only a pro sport for like ten people. I listen to OCR podcasts to get me through my runs.
What is your favorite color?
Purple, but not in a crazy-purple-lady type of way. I’ve noticed that people who like purple tend to REALLY like purple and don’t think that one article of purple clothing at a time is enough to convince the world of their devotion to the color. So if you ever see me in head-to-toe purple, watch out; I have probably begun my descent into insanity.
What are your favorite TV Shows?
Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Friends, Seinfeld
What are your favorite Movies?
Lord of the Rings and Gladiator, in that order. I love fantasy and ancient Rome, in that order.
What are your favorite Songs?
So I’m super weird about music. I hardly ever listen to it, probably because I have a song in my head 24 hours a day. Actually, I haven’t determined for sure if it continues or pauses when I sleep, but it’s there the second I wake up. Most often it’s a Disney or Christmas song, but it really isn’t much under my control.
Anyway, since I really can’t make the music stop, I’m pretty picky about what I do listen to and tend to like only one or two bands at a time. For the last few years I have almost exclusively listened to Muse and AWOLNation. It’s too difficult to pick absolute favorites, but “Invincible,” “Explorers,” and “Uprising” by Muse come to mind. And I really like “Like People, Like Plastic” and “Run” by AWOLNation.
What are your favorite Movies you hate to admit?
It certainly wasn’t critically acclaimed or very popular, but I love Phantom of the Opera. Great, overdramatic music that I can play in my head all day long.
What are your favorite Songs you hate to admit?
I’ll go with the aforementioned Disney songs. Anything from The Little Mermaid is great. The only time I ever did karaoke, I sang “Under the Sea.” It was atrocious. I even tried to do Sebastian’s accent. Let’s never mention this again.
Favorite hobby outside of physical activity?
Traveling! I’ve been to 49 states and 18 countries. Over the summer we lived in our van for three months and drove around the US. We rock climbed and hiked in the national parks, ran some OCRs, and went to as many ninja gyms as possible. I guess that’s not a good example of something that’s not physical activity, but there sure was a whole lot of sitting in between.
What is your favorite Food?
Almost every day I crave a cold, ice-blended coffee drink. Then I get one and complain that I’m cold.
A secret talent you might have that not many know about?
I can write over 200 words per minute. (I’m a stenographer.) Also, I can cross one eye while looking straight ahead with the other. One of these talents is slightly more useful than the other.
A secret wish you might have, something you want to do that’s weird.
I always have crazy ideas, but the first three that come to mind are flying in a wingsuit (I’m just sane enough to not actually do it), going on a via ferrata (pretty sure I’ll eventually do that one), and having a supernatural experience (this is probably a be-careful-what-you-wish-for one).
