Here we have competitor Eddie, age 31, Albuquerque, NM
Athletic background? Not much of an athletic background. I play lots of sports, but only at the recreational level: flag football, soccer, softball. I’ve dabbled in swimming, triathlon and mud runs as well. I’ve picked up rock climbing for about a year now, originally as part of NW training, but I’ve grown to love it as its own sport.
How long obstacle course training? I started training specifically for Ninja Warrior about a year ago. I started the obstacle specific training in September when I joined Ninja Park.
Why obstacle training? I like it, and I’m pretty good at it! I like the versatility of the training, and trying to apply the concepts in diverse situations. There’s always a new way to approach an obstacle, and that keeps everything fresh.
Why compete? Motivation? I like it, and I’m pretty good at it! And I’m naturally competitive!
Favorite obstacle? Least favorite obstacle? This changes so much… I guess currently my favorite and least favorite are the same: The Cliffhanger. I really like the challenge, but I hate the wear and tear on my hands.
Personal interests (movies, hobbies, music, books, charities, etc.)? Between work, grad school and training I don’t have much time for other interests! I do enjoy hiking/camping a lot though, and I’m looking to get back into scuba diving when I get the chance.
Something interesting about you? I’m a Physicist in the Air Force. I work at one of the premier telescope sites in the southwest US, and I couldn’t ask for a better job. It keeps my mind engaged, while Ninja-ing keeps my body engaged!
Motto or how you live your life? Never let your memories be bigger than your dreams.
Piece of advice for obstacle course training? Listen to your body, and incorporate rest into your training plan. Nothing sucks worse than being sidelined due to injury!
