Here we have competitor Daniel, age 42, Ada, Oklahoma.
Athletic background? I’ve always loved athletics, but growing up on a farm and ranch didn’t leave much time for it. As a kid I loved physical challenges and especially any kind of obstacle. When my Dad would talk about basic training for the military, I thought it sounded like so much fun.
How long obstacle course training? I really didn’t begin obstacle course training thought till about 2012 when I became interested in American Ninja Warrior.
Why obstacle training? My family and I had just begun the adoption process in summer of 2012 when I saw the show for the first time. I knew right away I wanted to compete with a heart to honor God and to raise awareness for orphans and encourage others to sponsor or adopt a child.
Why compete? Motivation? My faith and my desire to help and inspire others is what motivates me. In addition to providing a great platform to promote my cause, obstacle training helps prepare me physically and mentally for my job as a firefighter.
Favorite obstacle? Least favorite obstacle? My favorite obstacles are usually grip and upper body, while the balance type are my least favorite.
Personal interests (movies, hobbies, music, books, charities, etc.)? I’m interested in many things. Through the years I’ve been a hunter, fisher, dirt track racer, marathoner, and I love to travel. Besides my career as a firefighter, I ‘m also a motivational speaker.
Something interesting about you? I’m interesting because I’m an adopted child that is comfortable speaking about my situation and I’m a very diverse person that loves people regardless of different views and values.
Motto or how you live your life? My motto is actually a scripture from Matthew 6:33 “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.”
Piece of advice for obstacle course training? My advice for obstacle training is make sure to develop strength, flexibility, and mobility as you train while having fun and being safe.

Competing on ANW season 6 was an incredible experience. Getting selected as a featured competitor was a dream come true as my story was shared across the world. The opportunities to share my faith and passion for helping others continue as I get to speak to FCA groups, youth groups, and other motivational speaking engagements. I also currently teach two classes a week for children at a local gym. I’ve applied for season 8 and hope and pray I get selected to compete in Oklahoma City!
