Here we have competitor Nate aka The Balance Ninja, age 27, from Albuquerque, NM.
Athletic background? Baseball, Basketball and Skateboarding as a kid. More recently I’ve gotten into slacklining, obstacle training and a little parkour.
How long obstacle course training? I’ve been training since February 2015.
Why obstacle training? Maintaining a healthy and strong body has always been important to me. I think obstacle training as a fitness style is so much more rewarding than traditional exercises and weight lifting. It helps me become that kid playing on the jungle gym at recess again. From a mental standpoint, it really helps me manage stress, overcome challenges in other aspects of my life and helps me reach a meditative state.
Why compete? Motivation? I compete to be at my best. I want to prove to myself that I can do anything. My motivation comes from me pushing myself and growing as an individual. I have two sons and a daughter on the way and if I could only teach them one thing it would be to challenge yourself everyday. By competing I do just that and that sort of leading by example is also a big motivator for me.
Favorite obstacle? Least favorite obstacle? I love the spinning log, lache bars, spider flip and rope and grip junctions. I’m not too fond of the body prop but it’s hard for me to truly dislike any obstacle.
Personal interests (movies, hobbies, music, books, charities, etc.)? I love balancing on anything especially a slackline and handrails. I also really love to learn.
Something interesting about you? I was born with a hole in my heart.
Motto or how you live your life? Improve daily.
Piece of advice for obstacle course training? Push yourself, have fun, be patient with progress and commit 100% especially if you’re scared.
